I still remember the first music CD I ever purchased. It was Dokken’s “Back for the Attack.” And it rocked. (Still does!)

Going back even further, though, the very first album I ever purchased in my life (and it was on something called an “audio cassette.” Go look it up, kids.) was the Police’s “Synchronicity.”

Yeah, I was always into music as a kid and there was more than one occasion where my dad’d scream at me to “Lower that noise!” This seemed to mostly happen when Twisted Sister was blaring for some reason.

Anyways, today it’s so much easier for kids to play music. I had a stereo in my room and a walkman that I’d listen to when I mowed the lawn. That was it. Now, you can play tunes anywhere and everywhere thanks to the wonderful digital age we live in. All you need is a computer, tablet or smartphone.

Great for kids who like to sing and rock out wherever they are. But considering how today’s music is a bit more… let’s say “R-rated,” that can be a bit troublesome for us parents of young kids. Sure there are radio-friendly versions for many songs, but it’s still a bit exhausting keeping up with what songs my kids should or shouldn’t listen to.

  2. I learned that the songs are parent-approved. That’s really important to me because there’s a lot of music out there with some pretty crude language.

  13. I don’t have a smart phone. I’m not that tech minded. I begged by husband to get me a Jitterbug phone. Yes, I am that old! I would like to win the Target gc however.

  14. well, you still have to pay for it… I dunno about any of this. I know about getting single song mp3’s… this might save money? I would have to investigate it more. I like that it is screened for the kids. So much music, TV and all today is all pure filthy. I do not understand why everyone seems to like it.

  25. I grew up in a music store in the 80’s, so I was lucky that my parents didn’t mind the blaring music to much. My older siblings got them to order 2 Live Crew once, and we didn’t switch the tape before they got home.. whoops lol they listened to everything we got from then on. Oh the 80s! 🙂
