I love to write, and I love to create. When I was younger, I poured my heart out into journals (with a pen, and paper…old school style). This is just an extension of that. For me, blogging is both an outlet, and a source of energy.
I love that I’m capturing memories I might otherwise forget. I love to go back through old entries and read about things the kids were doing a year ago that I completely forgot about. Also, I just love the whole process…I love writing and getting my pictures just right and seeing it all come together.
Probably my notebook, that I got at Target for $1, where I jot down ideas and to-do lists and everything else that crosses my mind.
Yes, and no…not yet, anyway! Maybe if they start searching through the archives (I kept it a secret for a long time). Actually, I don’t think it would get me into trouble. One piece of advice my mother-in-law has always given (long before there was ever a blog) was to “Never write something down you don’t want people to see.” That’s been pretty good advice and I try to keep it in the back of my head.
I have, and it wasn’t too awkward…I’m generally nervous in situations like that, but the conference I was at was designed to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible, so everyone was really nice. And there was wine. So, that helped.
Probably the post about the time I wore mom jeans. It wasn’t my proudest day (but they sure were comfortable).
Oooooh…that is a good one!! Ummm…I’d have my Gramma Polly, who passed away 10 years ago, guest post. She died before I had any kids, so we never talked about parenting…I’d love to get her advice and hear some stories. And, she was funny.
Oh, I have plenty of really, really, reallly good pictures of them that I’m saving for their weddings! Actually, I do worry about this. Or, I should say, I did. I worried about it so much I almost wasn’t sure I would continue blogging (or, at least, sharing my kids pictures on the blog). Then I realized that it didn’t need to be that extreme…
And now, I just try to be cognizant of the fact that someday they are going to be adults and their future employers are going to be googling their names and do I really want to be responsible for their inability to get jobs because the internet is full of pictures of them in the underwear with spaghetti smeared all over their faces as toddlers? I mean, there’s always going to be some of that when you blog about kids…I’m just trying to keep it appropriate. I’m trying to trust my instincts on this and hope they will be employable when they turn 18. Ha!
There is! We were 21 – he lived in Texas, I lived in California – and we met at a blackjack table. We always say, “Wow, glad that worked out…” and, “Did you ever think when we met in Vegas all those years ago we’d be having this conversation?” (usually as we’re discussing the kids or childbirth or something else you would never in a million years talk about with someone you met in a casino).
It was tough at first. Texas is very hot. And there are a lot of bugs. And Texas flags and people wearing shirts that look like Texas flags. But I’ve been here over eight years now, and at this point I identify more with Texas than I do with California. In fact, I’ve got a new blog in the works that’s all about Texas. So you could say I’ve adapted!
GAH the scorpions and the brown recluse spiders…OH MY. Our last house, out in the country, was literally (like, completely) infested. I had scorpions fall out of a light fixture onto my head while I was in the shower (more than once), crawl over my face at night, sting me while I was in bed…it was intense!
We’ve moved, and not a single scorpion has been seen in our new house. In fact, just last night I was in bed and felt something on my face and for a split second thought it might be a scorpion – nope, it was just the vent blowing! To answer your question – yes, those are probably the scariest thing I’ve written about (I can’t remember if I wrote about the snakes in the house or not, though…those were scary, too).
