Help Dad Protect His Family With a Father’s Day Gift of Home Security

Home Security

June is National Safety Month! Not that you shouldn’t keep safe every month, but this is the time to really spread the word on keeping yourself and your family safe.

Growing up, we never had a home security system. My parents still don’t have one. Yes, we did lock our doors, but that was about it. Times were so much simpler and safer back then.

Nowadays, I just hear so many more horror stories about break-ins or abductions. In our area there have been a number of break-ins recently, during normal daylight hours even! So yeah, we definitely have a security system in our house now.

As a parent, though, I have to think about my kids and of course, it’s mandatory to always worry about their safety. What happens when my boys are older and head off to college? Or get their own apartment? Or even travel with their friends?

Thankfully, they’re still a little too young for any of that. But I was pleasantly surprised to learn about SABRE’s home safety line of products. Simple to install, you can basically set up your own home security system in just a matter of minutes.

The SABRE gang sent me over samples to try out including a Glass Alarm 2-pack, Door or Window Alarm 2-pack, and a Dorm/Apartment Kit.

I never even knew that portable security systems existed! These were all a snap to install (stick right on a door or window) in just a few seconds and all of them (except for the Door Stop) include the necessary batteries so they’re ready to go.

I love how the back of each Glass Alarm features a Protection Notice.

This window alarm took less than 60 seconds to put up.

I think my favorite of the bunch is the Door Stop Alarm. So simple yet I never would’ve thought of it. You just close your door and stick the Door Stop Alarm under it. Someone opens it from the other side, the Alarm moves and goes off.

This Door Stop Alarm is perfect for travel!

I actually remember creating my own security system like that when I was a kid. I had one of those huge Shogun Warrior toys. It must’ve been about two-feet tall. His name was Raydeen and you could shoot his fist off and fire missiles from his chest by pressing a button on his back.

I came up with some crazy contraption where I’d tie a piece of thread to the button on his back, then to something else in my room and stretched the thread across the bottom of my doorway a few inches off the floor. When someone would walk in and step through the thread, the tiny plastic missile would fire. It actually worked too! Well, maybe one out of 20 tries, but still!

I’ll definitely be bringing these with me when I travel, that’s for sure. I mean, this Door Stop Alarm is just a “bit” smaller than my Shogun Warrior homemade alarm.

Besides home security systems, SABRE also offers personal and home safety items like pepper sprays. I live in NY, so the laws here are a bit strict about the size and formula that can be sold here. But SABRE sent me over a Key Case Pepper Spray with a NY formula.

Pepper Spray Keychain
SABRE’s Pepper Spray is super convenient as a keychain.

What’s neat is they also included a practice Pepper Spray so we can all test it out to make sure we know how to use if we’re ever in a dangerous situation that requires it.

I don’t have girls, but if I did, I’d probably make sure they had a different Pepper Spray for every day of the week to keep them safe! As such, I’ll be sure my wife carries this around with her at all times. I like how it’s a keychain too so you should have very easy access to protect yourself as you’re running to your car or home with your keys in your hands.

If you’re concerned about home safety or want to beef up your home security, I definitely recommend checking out the SABRE Home Series of products. They’re inexpensive and real easy to install.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect, either, what with Father’s Day right around the corner. Any of these home safety products would make a much better Father’s Day gift than the same old boring tie.

So help dad protect his family with a gift of home security! After all, no one’s ever scared a burglar off with nothing but a tie.

How do you keep your home safe?

  3. I hadn’t thought of giving a home security system as a Father’s Day gift, but I like the idea. It’s a great way to feel a little bit safer in your home. There’s a lot of different systems out there, and choosing the right security alarm to install will depend on your individual wants and needs. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  4. It is always better to be safe than sorry. There are lots of things going on in the world right now, it is hard to be too trusting! My sister had the same sized pepper spray and it is very handy – she can easily slip inside her bag. My mom gave it as a gift since she works until late in the evening so it is a good extra precaution.
