Little Mac punches Mario Smash Bros for the Wii U

One of my favorite video games ever was Mike Tyson’s Punch Out from the original NES.

I just loved fighting all those ridiculous characters. I mean how can you not love some big fat dumb boxer called King Hippo, who was impossible to beat unless you punch him in the stomach, causing his pants to fall down?

When a new version of Punch-Out!! came out for the Wii a few years ago, I must’ve given up living for a few weeks as I punched my way through round after round of bad seeds on my way to win a championship belt. Even my kids got in on the fun. They still love playing it.

Well, the little guy is back in the spotlight again, this time making his debut on the Wii U! Yep, Nintendo just announced that Little Mac will be a playable character in this year’s Super Smash Bros. Wii U! Take a look at this killer preview!

There’s a bunch of new characters in this latest version of the button-mashing, multi-player fighter! I’m definitely most pumped for Little Mac, but the other newcomers look like they’ll be a blast to play too! Joining Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, Link and the others this time around are Rosalina (from Super Mario Galaxy), Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer (uh, someone wanna explain this one to me?), and Villager (from Animal Crossing I think.

Personally, I’m atrocious at fighting games. No, really. I recall playing Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis when I was a kid. My mom actually took a turn and yeah, even she crushed me! Still, I enjoy playing them, and I just love how all these Nintendo characters get to fight it out under one game’s roof! My kids, on the other hand, are huge fans of Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii and can talk and fight circles around me.

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and the 3DS hits stores sometime in 2014. Yeah, I know, I’d love a little more detail on the Super Smash Bros. Wii U release date, but “sometime this year” is all we’ve got so far. This is one fight, though, that’s definitely worth waiting for!

  3. My best character is Pit even though I didn’t play his original game, just because I’m very clumsy at Smash Bros but his sword reach helps me a lot. I’m the most excited for Mega Man!

  4. Your mom is WAAAAY cool – a Whovian, and she mopped up the floor with you on video games?? Awesome! I have to check this out when it appears – It will help me tame my evil twin doppelgänger! (Normally, I don’t quote anything in German – you know why! – but I had to make an exception here!)

  5. The graphics in these games are unbelievable. Your right, its so easy to get addicted when your having fun. Video games have definitely come a long way since Atari’s Tennis Game (with the two dashes acting as people).
