Marvel Brews Up Benedict Cumberbatch for Some ‘Strange’ Happenings

Doctor Strange

It seems like only yesterday I recall seeing the Comic Con footage that kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” was blasting, just as a grey tin-suited hero blasted his way out of the cave that birthed him.

Now, some two cinematic phases later, we’re on the brink of a full-on Civil War between #TeamCap (a.k.a. The Good Guys!) and #TeamIronMan (Misguided heroes who should know better). And while I’m drooling at the mouth waiting for that one (Only 1 more month!), I am beyond excited for November’s next mystical, marvelous tale: Doctor Strange!

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to suddenly hear Jim Morrison’s voice start bellowing “People are strange, when you’re a stranger…” any day now as a supreme sorcerer casts his eye (and some spells) on the people of New York.

Most of you Marvel Movie fans are probably scratching your heads at this point saying, “Doctor Who?” No, no. Wrong Doctor. Though they did cast a British guy in this role too! I’m talking about Dr. Stephen Strange. One of the world’s most prominent (and arrogant) surgeons. Except when things go bad (I won’t give anything away), strange things happen and suddenly Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme is born!

In the comics, Doctor Strange is the groovy, hip, spiritual hero who lives in his Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village, NY. With his faithful servant Wong, the two of them fight forces that the rest of the Marvel Universe doesn’t even know exists.

I can’t think of a better casting choice for Doctor Strange than the insanely talented Benedict Cumberbatch. He doesn’t just look the part, he is the part. He was recently seen shooting in Greenwich Village and shared some photos of the good Doctor, so take a look and prepare to be mystified!

Just as Guardians of the Galaxy expanded the Marvel Universe into the cosmos, Doctor Strange is going to do with the whole world of magic and mysticism. Yeah, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get insanely bigger. And, of course, a whole lot stranger.

  1. You are right, I hadn’t heard of this movie at all (or I’m ashamed to admit, Doctor Strange at all) but my son has and I told him about it, and he’s stoked!
