Aveeno’s New Men’s Collection Shows the Sensitive Side to Shaving

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Dad Central Consulting for AVEENO. I received product samples and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Aveeno Men's CollectionI’ve been shaving since I was about 5 years old I’d say. No, really. I still remember that little plastic toy razor I had as a kid that I’d pretend shave with.

My dad would even give me a squirt of shaving cream to cover my face, and then I’d use the little yellow and red “razor” to take it all off.

Once I hit junior high, forget about it. I’m like Homer Simpson. I shave  in a few minutes and my stubble pretty much comes right back. I even won a Beard Off Contest at work years ago for growing the best beard within a one month period. Allie actually loved it and is dying for me to grow it again. But it’s too much of a pain to upkeep and it’s super itchy in the winter.

When I shave, I generally use one of those gel shaving creams and a disposable razor. So when Aveeno approached me to try out their new AVEENO Men’s Collection, I couldn’t wait.

I’ve used Aveeno products in the past, mainly the oatmeal bath packets that really help if you’ve got super dry or itchy skin. I certainly trust the company, so I figured I’d see what their new collection could do.

Aveeno sent me a collection that included a Men’s Face Wash, Men’s Shave Gel and a Men’s After Shave Lotion. All three feature the Active Naturals Oat ingredient that works to cleanse, moisturize and soothe men’s sensitive skin. At least that’s what Aveeno claims. I’ll be the judge of that!

First up is the Men’s Face Wash. I have to say I totally love this product. It has a gritty feel to it so it really works to scrub at your face to help cleanse it. It’s like giving yourself a mini massage on your face every morning. It also seems to make my skin a little softer. I’ll definitely keep using this and most likely replace the tube when I’m finished with it!

The real test though is the Shave Gel. That’s what I was curious to try out. It comes in a standard shaving cream tube shape with the subtle brown and tan color scheme. Much more soothing than the standard bright orange that normally greets me.

Men's Shave Gel

I haven’t used foam shaving cream in years, so I’m used to just a little squirt from my standard gel shaving cream to cover my face. I meant to squirt a tiny bit on my hands but got a little carried away.

Gel hands

With that much gel on my hands, I was able to cover my entire face and still have some leftover that I just rinsed off.

Before Shaving

The cream is hard to describe. It’s sort of the perfect mix between those standard gels and normal shaving cream. While I didn’t notice a massive difference from my normal gel, I did feel like my skin was getting taken care of better with the Aveeno. I’ll have to try it for a few weeks to see if it has a good long-term effect. I can say that it did make my skin feel a bit smoother and afterwards I didn’t have any standard nicks or razor burn like I normally get on my neck.

The final step is to put on some After Shave Lotion. I normally don’t put on after shave, and last time I did it was more like a cologne that stung like the Dickens. This one is a lotion and there’s no sting at all. It’s actually quite nice and left my skin real smooth when done. It certainly passed the wife test.

Aveeno’s Men’s Collection ranges in price from $3.99 to $5.99 and is available now wherever Aveeno products are sold. You can even order directly from Aveeno.com if you’d like.

  4. I’ll check this out for my brother. He’s always pissing money away (so to speak) on “prestige” brands of shaving cream, etc. (Does anyone need $50 shaving cream???) Aveeno is tried and true, and is known for being soothing, and maybe I can trick bro into thinking Calvin Klein or Hermes had something to do with it!

  6. So maybe if I buy this for my husband he’ll actually shave…is that what you’re telling me? He works from home and thinks it’s okay to just not shave, ever, as a result! This stuff looks great.
