The Book of Life Giveaway – $50 Visa Gift Card, Guitar & More (Ends 10/21)

I love Halloween. It’s easily my favorite holiday of the year. I’m not a huge fan of horror movies, though. What I do love are all the things associated with Halloween.

Witches. Skeletons. Pumpkins. Ghosts. Oh yeah, and candy, of course. But I really love cartoons and movies that play off the fun (albeit slightly scary) angle of it all. And that’s why I’m fascinated and eager to see 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film The Book of Life.

After seeing images from this film, I didn’t even care what the story was about. The characters could just sit around reading the dictionary to each other for all I care. They just look so cool!

Don’t worry, this movie isn’t about a secret society of dictionary readers.

So what is it about? Glad you asked!

THE BOOK OF LIFE, a vibrant fantasy-adventure, tells the legend of Manolo, a conflicted hero and dreamer who sets off on an epic quest through magical, mythical and wondrous worlds in order to rescue his one true love and defend his village.

Torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, Manolo embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favorites, THE BOOK OF LIFE encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.

Directed by Jorge Guttierrez and produced by Guillermo Del Toro, The Book of Life features a star-studded voice cast including Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Diego Luna, Ron Perlman and more.

It’s really tough to describe this quirky-looking film, as it seems to be layered with rich characters across fantastic settings in a fun and frenetic pace. So rather than try to explain it any further, I’ll just share this clip with you instead.

In this day where so many movies at the theater are sequels, reboots or reboots of sequels, it’s a seriously refreshing change to see a unique film hit the big screen. I, for one, can’t wait to dive into The Book of Life later this month!

  1. While I know it might be cliche, my favorite love story is The Notebook. I have NEVER been a fan of love stories…I was always a Sci-Fi and horror girl, until this movie…it was captivating and sad and happy…

  2. Well when I was younger it was ghost, dirty dancing, grease, and footloose and even though those are old and I still love them now it it the twlight series and there are more I love, love stories and anything by nicholas sparks is wonderful there are just way to many to list.

  3. My favorite love story is the Dirty Dancing Movie, gotta love that classic movie! I watch it when it comes on tv all the time!

  4. One that ends well! I really the love story that occurred in the movie Greencard. It has Gerard Depardieu and Andi MacDowell.

  5. I’m going to have to say my favorite love story of all times is Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas! I know it’s not an actual love story but I love my stop animation films :)!

  6. My favorite love story is The Gift of the Magi. Both the husband and wife sell something dear to them to buy the other a gift.

  7. I confess my favorite love story just might be Taming of the Shrew, by Shakespeare. LOVE that story. Princess Bride is wonderful, too! Can’t stop watching that one either.

  8. I pretty much love all of the Nicholas Sparks love stories! Also,in 10 things I hate about you.Such a cute movie.

  9. I’ll admit it — I love “The Notebook” as well as “Notting Hill”. Probably the later more since I’m a big Julia Roberts fan.

  10. That’s a tough question! I’ll have to say that one of my favorite love stories is The Princess Bride. Through time, distance and all kinds of crazy things happening in their lives, they still end up together 🙂

  11. Romeo and Juliet.
