I love Halloween. It’s easily my favorite holiday of the year. I’m not a huge fan of horror movies, though. What I do love are all the things associated with Halloween.

Witches. Skeletons. Pumpkins. Ghosts. Oh yeah, and candy, of course. But I really love cartoons and movies that play off the fun (albeit slightly scary) angle of it all. And that’s why I’m fascinated and eager to see 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film The Book of Life.

After seeing images from this film, I didn’t even care what the story was about. The characters could just sit around reading the dictionary to each other for all I care. They just look so cool!

Don’t worry, this movie isn’t about a secret society of dictionary readers.

So what is it about? Glad you asked!

THE BOOK OF LIFE, a vibrant fantasy-adventure, tells the legend of Manolo, a conflicted hero and dreamer who sets off on an epic quest through magical, mythical and wondrous worlds in order to rescue his one true love and defend his village.

Torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, Manolo embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favorites, THE BOOK OF LIFE encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.

Directed by Jorge Guttierrez and produced by Guillermo Del Toro, The Book of Life features a star-studded voice cast including Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Diego Luna, Ron Perlman and more.

It’s really tough to describe this quirky-looking film, as it seems to be layered with rich characters across fantastic settings in a fun and frenetic pace. So rather than try to explain it any further, I’ll just share this clip with you instead.

In this day where so many movies at the theater are sequels, reboots or reboots of sequels, it’s a seriously refreshing change to see a unique film hit the big screen. I, for one, can’t wait to dive into The Book of Life later this month!

  1. While I know it might be cliche, my favorite love story is The Notebook. I have NEVER been a fan of love stories…I was always a Sci-Fi and horror girl, until this movie…it was captivating and sad and happy…
