I don’t get sick that often. But when I do, apparently it’s a doozy. Last summer I came down with pneumonia and just last week, I got slammed by the flu. Yeah, I’m not having a very good health year, am I? I was even feeling a bit under the weather on a business trip last August and really could’ve used a Healthcare Clinic Philadelphia.
I’m lucky in that at times, I can work from home. But tons of working moms and dads don’t have that luxury and need to make it into the office no matter what it takes. Every day it takes me roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes door-to-door to get to work. That involves two trains and a short walk of about 4 blocks. Yeah, just to get to work.
So once I’m in the city, if I’m feeling crummy, it’s almost a waste to go all the way home. That’s when a local clinic really comes in handy. The same goes for when I’m traveling for work. Back in August, I spent a few days down in Philadelphia at a work conference. Luckily I didn’t come down with anything serious, but I was getting a scratchy throat halfway through the conference. I drank a lot of water and sucked down plenty of cough drops but probably would’ve benefited from a trip to the doctor. I just didn’t have the time to waste hunting down a local physician and then waiting probably hours to be seen. Now I know that there’s actually a great alternative out there.
Did you know that there are roughly 400 Walgreens Healthcare Clinics in the country? The popular pharmacy offers a simple and convenient solution for all those working moms and dads out there who just can’t afford the time or the money to take a day off from work, while trying to squeeze in an appointment at their local doctor’s office.
What’s great about the Walgreens Healthcare Clinics is that you can either schedule an appointment or simply walk right in. Wait times are generally only 20 minutes and you’ll get to see a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant. They’ll give you a thorough exam, follow up to see how you’re doing within 48 hours, and even pass on your records to your primary care provider.
So what exactly does the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic offer? Not just a quick checkup (though you can get that too), but you can get everything from prevention and wellness to treatment to monitoring and maintenance.
Specifically, you can get all sorts of vaccines for yourself and your kids. Whether it’s time for a regular shot, your kids need them for the school year or you’re looking for an annual flu shot, Walgreens Healthcare Clinics have you covered.
Vaccines available include:
- Chickenpox
- Flu
- Hepatitis A and B series
- HPV
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
- Meningitis
- Shingles
- Tetanus & Diphtheria (TD)
Of course there’s also camp, sports and annual school physicals. For working moms and dads who just keep putting it off and never seem to have time to bring their kids in, they can stop worrying. Simply set up an appointment or walk right in and take care of business.
The best part of Walgreens Healthcare Clinics? Yeah, they’re open 7 days a week, including some weeknights too. For working moms and dads, that alone, is a lifesaver. I don’t know what it is about kids, but they always seem to get those sore throats or ear infections on a late Friday. Then they suffer all weekend until you take them in on Monday, meaning you’ll have to take a day off work too.
How much of a boon is it for working moms and dads to know that they can bring their kids in for a checkup either on a weeknight after work or anytime over the weekend? Not having to worry about missing work is a huge weight off of most parents’ minds. It’s also incredibly convenient that Walgreens happens to have its own pharmacy too, so you can get checked out and treated all in the same visit. Talk about a major time saver!
Walgreens Healthcare Clinics accept a majority of insurance plans but if they don’t accept yours, don’t worry, prices are completely reasonable. Treatment for most common illnesses start around $79 and then vary based upon additional tests or procedures that may be needed. What’s extra nice is that you can even see a full price list chart right on their website, so there are no surprises. That’s real different from most doctor visits where you don’t even have a clue what the charges will be until you get your Explanation of Benefits!
Getting sick is incredibly inconvenient. Not just for the sickee themselves, but for working moms and dads. It’s not always easy to take off from work to either visit a doctor or take the kids to the doctors. So having the ability to just run into a local Walgreens Healthcare Clinic can save time and money for working moms and dads.

How do you find time for a checkup when you’re working?
I feel for you and that commute. My husband had a commute that sounds all too similar to that when we lived in Virginia. And my daily (non-working) commute just taking him back and forth to the train station was an hour a day. I wish there had been a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic near us then! #client
Good to know this if I’m ever in Philly. Strange, though, how these services are never available in my area. I guess I’m just out in the sticks here in NYC. WTF!
