One Flu Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Flu Tamiflu

Sorry I haven’t been very vocal lately but last week I got hit by a truck. I mean, I got hit by the flu, which hit me like a truck.

I could barely get out of bed on Thursday, and Friday was a bit better. I’ve been pretty much resting since, along with guzzling tea and pounding pills (1 round of Tamiflu, followed by a full round of Azithromycin for a secondary infection). I haven’t been making the long commute into work each day, but I have been working from home this week and then passing out for the night.

Before you even ask, yes I got a flu shot back in October. Apparently this year’s shot really missed its mark, because doctors are seeing loads of patients come in similar to me.

And since I’m such a giving person, I managed to pass the flu on to my lovely wife. I’m so generous, aren’t I? Luckily the kids haven’t been hit with it yet.

I considered doing a giveaway in case anyone else wants some influenza, but then thought that there’s probably all sorts of laws about spreading diseases across state lines.

I just wanted to put up a quick post so you guys didn’t think I’d forgotten about you! I have plenty of writing to catch up on and hope to do so once my body stops housing these unwanted guests.

  1. I had the flu about a month ago, it was horrible! I thought I was gonna die! Then to add more insult to injury I got some weird cold like two weeks later it was horrible!

  2. I haven’t caught the flu in years and I was an Elementary school teacher for 8 years! I think one thing that has helped is using a Neti pot daily. I tell everyone I know about it. It’s worth a shot.

  3. I am so sorry to hear that you always sick. We’ve been lucky here nobody’s gotten the flu. It has been really really bad this year from what I’ve heard. Hope you all are feeling better soon. Take care.

  4. Well, that sucks, big-time! Poor you…..last time I had the flu I was floored…literally. Couldn’t walk, had to CRAWL to the bathroom. PLUS having to take care of a 6 month old baby while my husband was at work. And poor Allie, too. Let’s hope the boys don’t get it!

  5. Hope you are feeling better, I know what you mean about feeling like you was hit by a truck, I haven’t had the flu but I went in for a minor surgery last Monday and by Wed. I was so sick that I couldn’t even walk, decided I better go back to the doctor, had to have my incision opened up and my husband is packing it everyday, go back tomorrow and I think he might put me in the hospital and right now I won’t give him any fights.

  8. Bless your hearts! We’ve battled this cough/cold for a month, it seems. I’m practically glowing orange from all the Vitamin C and Zinc I’m taking. Hope y’all get on the mend soon!!!

  9. I’m glad you are feeling better. I have not gotten a flu shot … mainly because I don’t like needles but I also would be the one to get sick FROM the shot.

  10. I hope you’re feeling better soon. I’ve heard that there are about 6 strains of flu every year and the shot only targets about 3 of them. It’s a hit and miss, they hope that the strain of flu is one that the flu shot targets. I don’t bother with the shot anymore.

  11. I had been thinking about getting flu shot next year as there have been a lot of people hit this year with the H1N1 and it is kind of scary. Your post just makes me wonder whether to bother or not.

  12. We hope you feel better soon, and I for one am glad that you’re so concerned about sharing.
My Dh got a flu shot last year and he got sick, sick, sick after it. The rest of the fam didn’t and we were fine. I like to rub it in.

  13. You know, I’ve heard a couple other people say they got the shot and still got hit this year too! I wonder if there was something off about the mix in the shot this year. Oh, and thanks for skipping the giveaway on this one.

  16. It took us out, too. Our sleep schedules still haven’t recovered. Could you please tell me where that coffee mug is from? I don’t know how to describe it to Google it, but my parents-in-law LOVE boardgames and would go crazy for it.

  17. I’ve always been quite skeptical about the flu shot. Everyone I know that got the jab came down with the flu! Looks like you’re looking after yourself well. Hope you feel better soon. 🙂

  18. Sorry about the flu! It’s even worse when you’re expected to be still somewhat productive, instead of being allowed to, say, languish on the couch in front of the TV unencumbered.
