Charting Beer, Heavy Metal, and Super Powers

I'm in love. I'm a mega pop-culture geek, who also happens to love a good infographic or chart. Well, just like a Reese's Monkey and a cup of peanuts, someone managed to mix two great tastes that taste great together. Pop Chart Lab is just full of pure awesomeness. Ridiculous? Perhaps. Super geeky? Most definitely. See, the geeky, brainy folks behind PCL (that'd be Patrick Mulligan and Ben Gibson), do insane research on various topics and find a way to consolidate all that info into one handy dandy little chart. The first one that caught my eye was The Illustrious Omnibus of Superpowers #1. This colorful chart is basically a "taxonomic tree of over ...

10 Things My Wife Forbids Me to Do

When you're a kid life is just sooo unfair, right? You can't eat dessert until you finish your veggies. You have a bedtime, then later on a curfew. You just can't do anything you want! How many times did your younger self say, "I cannot wait until I'm an adult"? Yeah, every second of every day, I bet. But guess what? You grow up, get married, start a family and... you still can't do everything you want to do! Sure you've got a lot more freedom but you've also got a lot more responsibilities. In fact, there's actually a ton of things my wife doesn't just disapprove of me doing... she outright ...

Spider-Man, My Kids and the Kissing Episode

If you've been following my blog (and if you haven't, why not?), you know that I recently discovered Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends on Netflix and I've been watching it with my kids regularly. It was easily my favorite cartoon as a kid and I just love watching it with my two boys now. But to this day, I don't recall the infamous Spider-Man kiss. We just finished them all, but there was a big problem with episode #22. I have very vague memories of this one, but my wife doesn't recall it at all. She just kept screaming, "There is no way this ever aired. This has to be a ...

Lego Batman 2 May Be the Coolest Video Game Ever

"It's Awesome!!!" That's the initial review of Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes from my 9-year-old son Jason. And I pretty much have to agree with him. The Lego video games in general are all-around incredible (the Star Wars ones actually make Episodes I-III not just tolerable, but downright entertaining). The first Lego Batman was fun, but Lego Batman 2 soars to new heights. Not only do you get to play as Batman and Robin, but some of the DC Universe's heaviest hitters join the Lego party: Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Flash, and more! And of course the usual gang of Gotham's Worstest crash the scene. Lex Luthor actually joins up ...

Review: Monopoly zAPPed Edition – Don’t Be a Hater

Normally, I'm not a big fan of when companies try to modernize certain games simply by tossing in some simple apps or electronics that really do nothing to enhance the gameplay. I even wrote an article recently about Classic Toys Ruined by Technology. So when I was asked to review Hasbro's new Monopoly zAPPed Edition, I was more than a little bit skeptical. My oldest son Jason is a Monopoly addict. We must have five or six different versions in our house (Regular, U-Build-It, Fantastic Four, Hershey's, Star Wars...). He just loves playing and it's actually his "Go To" game when Grandma and Grandpa come over to babysit. So how could ...
