So I finally got a visit from the Fairy Hobmother. The what what now? The Fairy Hobmother.
Before I explain just what the hell a “Hob” is, let me explain what I’m talking about here.
Some guy named Matt Mitchell goes around the blogosphere dubbing himself the Fairy Hobmother. Matt works for a UK company called Appliances Online and came up with a brilliant (or insanely ridiculous?) marketing plan. He dubs himself the Fairy Hobmother and contacts various bloggers, offering them a $50 Amazon gift card in exchange for a write-up about his site. He then visits random people who comment on that post, offering them the same deal. And so on and so on.
In short, it’s a sponsored post, but it’s disguised as a cute, fun blogging game. I applaud his creativity with this one. But I seriously have to question his execution. First off, here’s what the Fairy Hobmother looks like:
Okay, so it’s a male version of Tinkerbell, basically. But why the name Hobmother? Shouldn’t it be Hobfather? All that fairy dust must be causing some gender confusion here.
As for the word, “Hob,” that took a little digging. (Okay, it took a quick Google search. Cut me some slack, will ya?) Apparently there’s a double meaning to the word: It’s either a flat metal shelf in a fireplace that’s used to heat pans or it’s a magical sprite. Since the Fairy Hobmother’s online store sells all sorts of appliances (like stove tops), his name is a double entendre. And… yeah, by now I probably lost about half my readership.
Anyways, for those of you who stuck around, go ahead and leave a comment below. You never know when the Fairy Hobmother is going to pay you a visit too!
Would you want a visit from the Fairy Hobmother?
This is a sponsored post. While I was compensated for this post, the thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own and in no way were influenced by the company.
I think this is a great idea and I applaud his creativity! We need more people like this in the world.
So cool that you got visited by the Fairy Hobmother – who’s site is pretty cool, BTW.
I like your write-up on him, I learned some interesting things, too. You are so informative.
I’d say you have now arrived!! =)
Hah. Thanks, Lorie.
I did not know what a Hob was so thank you. I love Matt’s creativity too and recently enjoyed a visit from him myself.
Btw your post made me laugh and it’s only 6AM here that’s sayin’ something….ha!
CLEVER! I wish he would visit my site.
I would really like this Fairy to visit me and sprinkle some fairy dust on me so I can finally find my Prince Charming! Ok……..and an amazon gc to fuel my book habit is cool too 😉
He only gives $50 Amazon Gift Cards. If you can buy a Prince Charming for fifty bucks… well… I’d recommend you don’t. Remember, you get what you pay for. 😉
The male version of Tinkerbell! Love It! Would love a visit from him!
I’d love a visit!!
Sounds fun! I would love a visit.
What a new marketing plan! Much better than trying to fit a link into a post and not sure how to make it work. I would love a visit!
I had no idea what a hob meant but I enjoyed my visit from the Fairy Hobmother. 🙂
Yeah, I might give him a shot. I love hobs.
I’ve been waiting for a visit for a long time! Would love to check out the Hobmother!
How fun! And thanks for the explanation! I’ve always wondered what a “Hobmother” was!
I’d love for him to come visit me!
Congrats! Very cute post!
Thanks!
Congrats! And thanks for the explanation!
As a father who hass three boys that are ALWAYS wanting things, $50 is not ever something to turn away from, so I applaud you! I’m sure your kids will Spend it wisley 🙂
I will take a little of that pixie dust anytime :).
I’ll bite too! Fairy Hobmother, feel free to stop by my blog…thanks Andrew for the heads up
Hey, Kyle! Good to see ya. Hope the Hobster pays you a visit!
Fairy Hobmother, take me to the ball!
Feel free to stop by my in-box!
I never heard of the Fairy Hobmother – how cool is that? Yes, I would like a visit…and I also want one of those dryers you linked to in your post!
I was recently visited by the Fairy Hobmother too. I had to just accept it at face value. I knew if I delved any further I’d get stuck too deep in the rabbit hole. P.S. Do fairies have antenna?
Now I am picturing Matt with little wings and a wand, acting as ‘mom’ to all the little blogger fairies! I did not actually know what a HOB was, so thankyou!
