Ever lose your wallet? It’s such a pain. You have to get a new driver’s license, cancel your credit cards and, yeah, buy yourself a new wallet too!
Now imagine someone stole your wallet. You can add “scary” to the mix of emotions you’re feeling, as someone can quickly assume your identity and start spending your money willy nilly.
What’s really scary, though, is that all of that can happen without you ever losing your wallet. It’s called Identity Theft and chances are it’s happened to you or someone you know. Back in 2010, over 8 million Americans had their identities stolen!
There are ways to protect yourself, though, and even services that will do it for you. I’ve always heard of LifeLock but never gave it a shot. So when the company approached me to do a review, I figured it was worth trying.
I quickly signed up for the LifeLock plan (they offer three plan levels) and I have to say it was super easy. Just enter some basic information and then the more specifics you can add (driver’s license number, credit card numbers, bank accounts, addresses, phone numbers, etc.), the more protected you will become. I also signed up for mobile alerts, so I’ll know instantly if someone’s trying to fiddle with my identity!
LifeLock monitors your account all based upon your social security number and then spreads its web out following your identity. The company takes an aggressively proactive approach too. Right after I signed up, they automatically sent me a notification saying they took steps to stop unsolicited pre-approved credit cards from being mailed to me, as those are a big risk in identity theft.
While I’ve never been the victim of identity theft (knock on wood), I honestly do feel a bit safer knowing that LifeLock’s got my back. I have a full year of the plan to test and see how secure my very identity can be.
LifeLock membership includes a service guarantee, so even if you are the victim of identity theft, you can rest easy knowing that LifeLock will be working around the clock to help you back to a full recovery.
If you become a victim of identity theft while you are a LifeLock member we will spend up to $1 million to hire experts, lawyers, investigators, consultants and whoever else it takes to help your recovery. Benefits under the Service Guarantee are being provided under a zero deductible identity theft insurance policy.
As everything seems to be moving more and more online (soon all payments will be made with a swipe of your cell phone I bet), the risk for identity theft just continues to mount. Do your research (LifeLock’s website offers the latest news and features surrounding protecting your identity) and be sure to keep your identity secure.
The protective people over at LifeLock want to give one of my lucky readers a free one-year membership too!
