If you ask my wife to use one word that best describes my taste for food, she’d most likely say, “variety.”
I love pizza, sushi, hot dogs, a good steak, fried clams, shrimp, etc. I pretty much love all food (except for olives and salmon). But I really like variety in what I eat. I can’t eat the same exact thing over and over and over.
If I go out for sushi, I love ordering as a group so I get to sample a little bit of everything. Maybe it’s from my upbringing. We used to go out for Chinese food all the time when I was a kid. And my dad would order three or four dishes, and we’d all share everything.
It’s probably why the Chinese buffet is my favoritest place to eat these days. Not much chance of getting Allie to join me at one of those, though.
Why am I talking variety? Because I want to talk about my favorite gadget: My Keurig coffee maker. I just love it. Pop in a K-Cup, press the button and BAM, instant coffee. The only cleanup is tossing out the used K-Cup. And since it makes one cup at a time, I can change up flavors in the same day. Variety + coffee = happy caffeinated Andrew!
Recently I became aware of Mixkups.com. This site was so created with me in mind. They really should rename it AndrewsMixkups.com. No, seriously. Go ahead, guys. I won’t mind.
Mixkups is a pretty simple concept. Sign up for their K-Cup of the Month Club, and every month you’ll receive a box filled with 30 different K-Cup flavors from a huge variety of brands. For $32 per month (including shipping), you’ll get a box filled with variety. Or if you prefer to Pick-Your-Pack, you can do that as well. Order as many or as few of each flavor as you’d like. Choose up to $32 worth, and shipping is free.
The energetic folks over at Mixkups offered me the chance to review their K-Cup of the Month for January. Not wanting to let my loyal readers down, I jumped at the chance!
My shipment arrived and the first thing I did was count all the K-Cups. Maybe that’s the OCD in me or the fact that I don’t trust many people. Either way, I was pleased to count 30 completely different K-Cup flavors.
Gloria Jean’s Butter Toffee. Green Mountain Breakfast Blend. Timothy’s Original Kahlua. (Awwww yeah!) Jet Fuel. Van Houtte’s Raspberry Chocolate Truffle. Seriously, there were so many flavors I never tried, I was in coffee variety Heaven!
For my first cup, I just had to try the Black Tiger. I mean, it’s easily the coolest looking K-Cup I’ve ever seen!
“Whoa! That smells strong!”was the first comment to come out of Allie’s mouth. And she was right. It did smell strong. I’m kind of a wuss when it comes to coffee. I love the flavor, but I’ll add a good amount of sugar (or Splenda… gotta watch my girlish figure) and skim milk. So I brewed up the Black Tiger, added some Splenda and skim milk and got ready for my wake-up call.
Now remember, this is the weekend, so I’m already a little more wide awake than normal. Did it work? Did it taste good? Let’s find out!
Ahhhhhh. Caffeine goodness! Black Tiger’s definitely a good bold flavor. Over the next day or too I also tried the Kahlua and the Butter Toffee and those were a little sweeter and not quite as strong. Definitely more my cup of tea. Er… cup of coffee, that is.
I can’t wait to try some of the other rather unique flavors. And every month, Mixkups offers up a new batch of flavors and brands, so you’ll get a whole new assortment of variety every single month. All without having to even leave your house!
I’d love to get an ongoing membership at Mixkups, and with their Gift program, you can do just that. Easily sign someone up for a gift membership for their birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion. (Hint hint.) Like, oh, say as a great gift for your favorite blogger…
