  1. Eye contact. I make sure that people know I’m aware and alert. I learned that in a self defense class I took. I highly recommend that everyone take a self defense class.

  2. I stay aware of my surroundings at all times, I do not go out at night by myself. This would be great for my granddaughter to take to school

  3. I make sure I stay alert and I’ll also keep my car keys in my hand when walking in mall lot’s so that I can press the alarm button on it if someone tries anything or I think they look suspicious and appear to be following me.

  4. I stay aware. I park in well lit spaces and if needed have someone walk me to my car, I also have pepper spray in my purse,

  5. I am always looking around while walking. I pay attention to who is around me. I also keep my phone in hand if I am anywhere that I am uncomfortable.

  6. I keep safe when I am at home by always making sure that all of our windows and doors are locked. When I am outside alone I always make sure that I park on a busy street with a lot of cars and lights and have my keys in my hand to unlock my door.

  9. I keep a stun gun in my purse and car and have a concealed carry permit for my gun. I would ask my daughter to carry this type of alarm since she can’t have a weapon at school.

  10. I keep my car/house doors locked and I always have my cell phone on me. I also never listen to music/ear phones so that I can be aware of my surroundings better. I try not to be out, alone, at night as well.

  11. I keep my car and house doors locked vigilantly, and I try not to get too distracted to notice my surroundings, and I generally do not go places alone. Safety in numbers! I have a can of pepper spray but I am too afraid to carry it with me–afraid one of my young kids will accidentally spray it–so it hangs, unused and out of reach, in my closet 🙂

  12. When I work we have to park very far away from the building so when I close and it is dark with only the pole lights on I try to have someone walk to our cars together and always look around at my surroundings to make sure no one else is around.

  13. I carry pepper spray when I’m out and about. I lock my car doors as soon as I get in my car and I have emergency #s on quick access on my cell phone.

  14. I keep my doors locked all the time, I look into my backseat of my car before I get in and always have my keys in my hand as I approach my car and I’m aware of my surrounding.

  15. I always keep the doors locked, check the peephole when someone knocks on the door, and have a cat who serves as my Home Security Patrol Officer when I’m out of the house!

  16. At home, I have a security system, security doors, and the doors are always locked. While out, I am always aware of my surroundings, carry pepper spray, and almost always have a couple German Shepherds with me.

  17. I keep safe by never answering my door (day or night) unless I know who is there. I also never carry a purse. Had my purse snatched once. I wear a pouch on my wrist with my key, credit card, drivers license and a small amount of cash. No one ever knows what it is. I have been asked even in the doctor’s office what I did to my wrist. It looks like I have a support of some kind on my wrist. I always lock my car as well and rarely venture out after dark

  18. I have security doors, an alarm system and a gun. The latter acquired after my home was invaded while I was here! If it happens again, I am ready. 🙂 Thank you.

  19. I don’t wear jewelry or flash cash 🙂 I plan our routes when we are traveling to stay in well lit, secure areas. Yesterday we were in Toronto, and I choose to park in a lot with emergency call buttons, and well lit. I also try to stay focused and aware of what and where I am going, not distracted on my phone.

  20. I try to stay very aware of my surroundings. It’s really awful in NYC, now, with people come up to folks and slashing them for now reason. I was sexually assaulted once….it’s something you never get over.
