I use a lot of electronics. And I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. Heck, I’m probably pretty average in that department.
Lately, I’m starting to realize just how much electricity I use regularly. When I go to bed each night, the last thing I do is plug in my phone, iPad, iPad keyboard case, Kindle and my wife’s phone too. That’s a lot. And that doesn’t account for the rest of the “normal” electricity we use in our house from lights to TVs to coffee makers, etc.
So yeah, we really take notice in the height of the summer when our air conditioner units are cranking around the clock. I’ve always thought about solar power but never really looked into it. Everyone always said it’d be real expensive at first to set things up and then way down the line you’d slowly start seeing some savings.
Well, apparently I was wrong. I know, it happens from time to time.
It seems there are a lot of misconceptions about solar service, and these days there are new companies that can make it much more affordable. Saving money and doing something that’s certainly better for the environment is a double win in my book.
One of these companies, Sunrun, was the first to invent Solar Service, a much more affordable way to get solar on your roof without any high upfront fees or hassles of ownership. To put it simply, you lease the panels from Sunrun, and they set everything up for you.
Sunrun solar service definitely sounds like something I want to look into, especially after they debunked a number of solar power misconceptions.
“Solar is expensive and has a high upfront cost.”
Reality: With Sunrun solar leasing, homeowners can get solar on their roof for as little as $0 down and start saving on their monthly electricity costs immediately.“Solar is complicated and out of reach.”
Reality: Solar service providers like Sunrun take care of all of the details of going solar, from designing the system, installing it on your roof, monitoring the system’s production, and maintaining the system throughout the lifetime of the solar service agreement.“Solar energy is more expensive than the electricity my utility provides.”
Reality: If Sunrun doesn’t think they can save you money, they won’t sell you a system.

Thank you for a good article! I could not agree more that quality pays financially in the long run. An other thing to think about is that good quality products with a long life span also are more eco friendly because it saves on the earths resources.
This sounds very interesting. I may have to look into solar for my co-op. Thanks!
Thanks for this post. I agree, it is hard to convince people that solar energy is an affordable option. I don’t own a house yet but I will consider solar panels in the future.
I would love to have solar panels. Had extra Family staying with us for 2 months and boy did our electric bill go up with extra appliances running in the garage. I think this is something I want to look into. My Husband has been wanting to do this for a while now.
We cant attach anything to our roof per the HOA. But this would be awesome!
Solar energy is so amazing! Would love to have solar panels!
I agree with you that I have heard that is was expensive to go solar. This seems like an interesting option. I look at our electric bills and then lecture the household about turning off lights, TVs, etc.
We have talked about going to go solar for a while now. I think we would save a lot of money in utility bills over the years.
I would love to harvest some solar energy as well as wind energy some day! Thanks for this post; its super relevant to our world today!
As with anything when it first comes out it is expensive but now putting in solar energy in is more affordable
I’ve been wanting to turn to solar power, but the cost has been prohibitive. It’s good to know this is a less expensive option now.
I think they can do this now because the cost has gone down in price to make these things. They sell them a lot cheaper to corporations. China is one of countries where manufacturers are making it cheaper.
I’ve been wanting to go solar for a while now..
I have solar hot water and I highly recommend it, not only for the money savings but the convenience as well. I live on the gulf coast so hurricanes are a part of life and when the power goes out, I’m the only person around that still has hot water.
We really need to take a deeper look into this. We have been thinking of solar for pool heating. Thanks.
here in Ontario, Canada a lot of people are getting panels on their roofs. The price of hydro is insane so it may be something even more of us get into soon.
Using Solar energy would definitely help on the electric bill and is better for the environment. It’s nice you could possibly get It installed for $0 down.
It would be awesome to save money on electricity with solar and it is so much better for the enviornment. But I wonder if you have to have a lot of sun all the time to make sure that the solar panels help with the electricity usage. I think solar energy is awesome!
As long as we could afford the up front cost, this would save us a ton of money over the long run!
