L.A. Story

I just got back from a whirlwind few days in L.A. I was out there on some not-fun personal business. For even more fun, I took the red eye flight back, leaving L.A. at 11:30 p.m. last night and arriving at JFK in New York at 7:30 a.m. Surprisingly, I made it through the entire day without passing out! Since I took a few photos and had some fun tales, I thought I'd just share with you. Unless you want me to bring out the slide projector that is...  I knew it was going to be a rough trip when the TV monitor in front of my seat was showing me fun ...

I Went Snowtubing for the Very First Time

I'm not a skier. Shocking, I know. I've gone twice in my life and that's more than enough. The first time I skied was back in middle school and I had an awful time. I was decent at keeping my balance but I couldn't stop or slow down for the life of me. So I'd go tearing down the basic hill in a straight line, picking up more and more speed. I'd eventually be going so fast, I'd just take a dive to stop myself. Eventually the ski patrol caught up to me, ripped my lift ticket and said I was banished to the bunny hill. The second time, I went with ...

This Galaxy Needs a Super Cool Star Wars Themed Casino in Las Vegas

What's the coolest thing about Las Vegas? Yeah, those insanely ginormous casinos. All the different themed ones are just so much fun to see from a distance, as well as from inside. The New York shows off huge landmarks from the Big Apple. The Venetian actually has a canal system in the middle of its shopping mall, completely with gondola rides! The Paris has its own Eiffel Tower that you can actually go up for a gorgeous view, while you digest the most delicious crepes. Yes, each Casino seems to outdo the next one. Bigger. Better. More detailed. More interactive. It's basically a theme park for adults. I'd say "without the ...

Who Knew Las Vegas Could Actually Be Fun?

I could use a vacation. Between the stress of juggling my freelance writing, my daddy blog, and JoeShopping, searching for a new full-time job, dealing with some legal issues, getting crazy ridiculous tax bills, and all the normal stresses of life, I could certainly use a little breather. I"m not really the beach type. For me it's either San Francisco (just LOVE that town) or Las Vegas. Yeah, I never thought of myself as the Vegas type. And up until a few years ago, I had never even been there. But I've been hitting the Sin City every January for the past few years to attend a work conference, and I ...

Building the Single Greatest Sand Castle Ever

This Labor Day weekend, we packed the whole family in the Odyssey and headed down to Point Pleasant Beach, NJ for a fun-in-the-sun getaway. Our friends have a beautiful beach house only a few blocks from the beach itself, and they were kind enough to let us stay with them. Free beach weekend with friends? Yes, please! I spent half the time riding the waves in the ocean. I just love doing that. It's fun and a seriously good cardio workout. I was actually out of breath when I came back to shore after about 15 or 20 minutes of jumping up and down. The kids loved jumping in and out ...
