Kids and Screens Make for Some Serious Play Time

As someone who grew up on the Atari 2600 and every system since, I've always had a strong belief that video games are so much more than mindless entertainment. There's so much to learn including: hand-to-eye coordination, puzzle solving and even the very basics of strategizing. As a fairly sedentary activity, though, video games and even basic TV viewing get a bad rap. And that's why I'm really intrigued by the Genius of Play campaign. The Genius of Play campaign seeks to explore and share the numerous ways that all levels of play can really help children learn and grow. The Genius of Play: Our mission is to provide families with the information ...

If any one word can sum up life in the desert, it's hope. That's what an oasis brings to those thirsty lost wanderers. Apparently Nintendo also sees the beauty in deserts, since they set their latest game, Ever Oasis, smack dab in the middle of sand country. The Nintendo 3DS game lets you control the last lone oasis in the desert, with an ominous force known as Chaos threatening to destroy it all. Your job is to explore the desert, solve all sorts of ...

Zelda’s Legend Crosses Generations Thanks to the Nintendo Switch’s Latest Adventure

I still remember the very first time I saw The Legend of Zelda. It was the mid '80s and we were visiting my cousins David and Michael in Parsippany, NJ. Nothing else about that trip comes to mind at all except for the moment I walked in their house, went downstairs and saw the most beautiful, shiny thing ever. The original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES for short) skyrocketed in popularity with the release of a gold-colored cartridge for a new role-playing game called The Legend of Zelda. This game had soooo much going for it. Neat story. A ginormous world called Hyrule that never seemed to end. Heart containers. And what at ...
