It’s no secret that Hasbro Pulse puts out some of the coolest action figures around for serious comic collectors. But when they recently announced a second wave of Marvel Legends Series Secret Wars action figures, I just had to have them. Constrictor! Falcon! Daredevil!
These figures looked just like they stepped out of the 1984 comic book series that pretty much kickstarted the whole annual comic event crossover trend. The thing is… I didn’t even know there was a first wave! Apparently, they released a set of six figures back in 2024, in celebration of the comic’s 40th Anniversary.
Naturally, I just had to scour eBay for days until I could catch ’em all! I mean, come on, just look at the Beyonder’s cheesy smile and even cheesier outfit. If that doesn’t scream impulse buy, what does?
Join me, won’t you, as I introduce you to the Hasbro Pulse Secret Wars gang:
Iron Man
There’ve been tons of Iron Man figures over the years, but this one hits me right in the feels.
It’s a fairly straightforward version of Shell-Head but has a slightly cartoony style to it. The colors are super bright and the small details, like the red discs on his hip, just scream, “I’m coming at you right from the comic!”
Just like the original Mattel Secret Wars toy line from the ’80s, every figure in this line comes with a “secret” shield. Tilt the lenticular image and watch it flip between the hero and his secret identity.
Spoiler! Iron Man is really Tony Stark!
Yeah, I didn’t understand the point of the secret shields when the original line came out. But I do really love that Hasbro Pulse is keeping that tradition alive.
Every figure in the line comes with a variety of accessories. Different hands. Repulsor rays. And the coolest thing on the planet…
Yes! Iron Man on roller skates!
While I definitely remember them from the comics in the ’60s, I don’t quite recall him zipping around on the Beyonder’s Battleworld with them during Secret Wars.
Maybe it’s time for a re-read.
I do still have a few of my original Secret Wars figures. There’s a “slight” difference in size, as you can see.
Almost looks like Pop Pop Iron Man and Son!
Captain America
I lost count years ago as to how many different Captain America action figures I own. (Naturally, that just comes with being Captain America’s #1 fan.)
My all-time favorite is still probably the Cap-Wolf figure, but this Marvel Legends Series Secret Wars Captain America figure from Hasbro Pulse is definitely in the Top 5. Great sculpt. Perfect amount of articulation. And loads of different hands to have Cap punch, point and even salute.
Best of all, though? What everyone thought was impossible up until Secret Wars issue #11… Cap’s shield is actually not indestructable.
Wolverine
Wolverine not only sports his classic brown and yellow costume from the ’80s, but he comes with a separate Logan head and two perfectly posed sets of hands.
There’s “normal” hands that just show off the sheaths his claws pop out of…
And then there’s the other set with the claws built in. I remember on the original Mattel Secret Wars Wolverine figure, the claws literally clipped on to the back of his hands.
But that smirk on his face? Spot on Wolverine.
Spider-Man
The biggest thing to come out of the Secret Wars mini-series (besides the inevitable avalanche of annual comic crossover events) was easily Spider-Man’s new black costume.
What I love about this figure is the sleek overall look and the fact that he’s a bit skinnier than the other figures. There’s also a good number of hands to swap in and out for punching, web spinning and just all-around high-fiving.
Secret Wars #8 was where it all started. The premiere of the “Black Costume” that eventually would lead to the creation of Venom.
Titania
Ah, Titania, one of the two new characters created during the original Secret Wars mini-series. (The other being Volcana.)
Just an ordinary woman at the start of the comic series, Mary MacPherran is transformed by Doctor Doom into the powerful villainess Titania when she swears her loyalty to him.
I never realized this before, but looking at her figure now, I see the lavendar on her costume looks pretty much like a capital letter T!
The Beyonder
What is there to say about The Beyonder other than he’s like the most powerful being in existence, stuck with a selfish, childish mind.
Who else would think of pulling chunks of countless different worlds in the universe apart and smooshing them together to create one big Battleworld for superheroes and villains to fight for his amusement?
How do you not trust a guy like this? I mean, if he was selling cars, he’d be hitting quota every month for a lifetime.
I’m not quite sure what the Beyonder is actually holding here. Could be a ball of crazy energy to unleash on his enemies. Could be a miniature version of Battleworld. Or even a regular size version of Battleworld, and he’s just mega sized. I’m not sure, but it’s neat that he can hold it in his hands and look extra creepy.
Each figure’s card back has a bio on the character, along with instructions on how to place the Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars 40th Anniversary card inside the shield.
All in all, I absolutely love this line and can’t wait for the next wave to hit this summer.
Here’s hoping there’s a wave 3 on the horizon. I would love to see Dr. Doom, Volcana and even the Molecule Man. Oooh, or Klaw, complete with dissected torso.
I know I’m a few year’s late to this party, but now that the secret is out, Hasbro Pulse’s Secret Wars Series has my number.
