Last week I had my Douglas Adams Birthday. For those of you who’ve never read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, that simply means I’m 42. Or, that I’m the answer to the ultimate question about life, the universe and everything.
To be honest, I don’t feel much older, other than my back being a little sorer and my gut being a bit wider. But I’m working on that! This is the year I get back into shape. But first, there’s cake. There’s always cake, right?
For my 40th Birthday, Allie made me an amazing Fozzie Bear cake. Fozzie’s my favoritest Muppet ever, followed by Beaker and The Swedish Chef. This year, she kept my cake a total secret for a long time. Even the kids were in on it and I have to say I’m impressed. They didn’t crack once, despite my dozens upon dozens of attempts to trip them up.
I was thinking superheroes, maybe the Avengers. Or something Simpsons related. I even thought for a second that it might be a Mr. T cake. That’d be something else. But I was incredibly shocked to see that she made me a… Beaker cake!!!
MEEP! MEEP! You wouldn’t believe how many cans of frosting were used for this cake. She made Beaker’s face in 3-D, so the Beaker part is almost as high as the cake itself! Kind of sickening, right?
Here I am doing my best Beaker impression as I’m totally shocked by my cake!
We totally look alike, right? Minus the hair, of course.
After cake it was time for presents! And photo bombing, apparently. Jason couldn’t wait to jump in the photo as I embraced some of my gifts including a DVD of the original Muppet Movie, a Captain America Mr. Potato Head, and a Swedish Chef stuffed animal!
Here I am modeling my super-cute Marvel Japanese-style T-shirt, along with some spiffy Super Mario Bros. pajama pants. Project Runway, look out!
And just in time for our recent trip to Yankee Stadium for a game, I got my first Derek Jeter T-shirt!
A Back to the Future Lego set!!!
I also got a few graphic novels I’ve been dying to read (Captain America and Fables for anyone keeping score at home). All in all, a really good haul!
Thanks so much to Allie and the kids for really making this a very special birthday!
what a great party – I love the cake soooo cute!!! I bet they want Dad to always be in charge of their birthday parties – wow!
As long as mom (not dad) makes the cake, then yes!
What a cute cake!
Looks like you had an awesome birthday!

You were given the best gifts ever! Love your cake. Your wife makes adorable cakes. Happy belated birthday. I’ve got to get myself some of those super cute Marvel Potato Heads.
Yeah, my family definitely knows the geekiness of me. Makes it easy to shop, right? Thanks for the bday wishes!
What a cute cake happy belated birthday.
Thanks, Denise!
Happy Belated Birthday! That cake rocked!!! My husband is a big Muppets fan – his favorite is the Swedish Chef although he’s partial to Beaker too. Thanks for sharing the pictures!
Thanks, Michelle! And your husband’s got some good taste!
Happy Belated Birthday! I’m surprised they kept mum on the cake, that’s pretty impressive. Almost as much as the cake itself, Allie did a great job! Looks like you made out like a fat cat with the gifts. Even though your Twitter profile says no cats allowed, I’m letting that slide. 😉
Hah. Thanks, Billie. Yeah, the kids were really great at keeping it a secret. Every time I asked (and tried to trick them), they’d laugh and say Allie was making me a cake that looked like a water bottle.
