SCOOB! Blu-ray Combo Pack Giveaway

Zoinks! Yes, like many impressionable young children, I grew up watching Scooby-Doo on TV. And besides learning the advantages of working as a team and the benefits of persistence in solving mysteries, I learned the true value of friendship. Shaggy and Scooby-Doo were inseparable pals. They may have been a bunch of bumbling scaredy cats, but they also supported each other no matter what. And they also ate. A lot. I always wonder what a Scooby Snack tasted like. I remember so many great episodes, particularly the ones with "guest stars" like Batman and Robin! Yep, Scooby Doo and the gang were my weekend buddies growing up. So I'm happy to see that the ...

I Finally Watched Akira and Now My Head Hurts

The first thing I learned while watching Akira this weekend was that I've been pronouncing it wrong for decades. The 1988 animated film, based on Katsuhiro Otomo's manga of the same name, is not pronounced "Uh-keer-ah." According to the movie, it's more like "Ah-key-ruh." Unfortunately, that's about the only thing I really learned from watching this 124 minute movie with my two boys. Now before I dive into my thoughts on Akira, let me set the record straight. I'm a huge comic book fan. My office is loaded up with everything from a Cap Wolf action figure to a Lego Death Star to a Kool-Aid Man POP Vinyl figure. I used to think ...

A Spider-Ham Cake Capped off a Spectacular 47th Birthday

Any day that kicks off with your own fully functional Infinity Gauntlet and ends with a spectacular Spider-Ham cake is one for the record books. Yes, today was my birthday. My 47th to be exact. And as always, my family made it extra special. The day started with a pile of presents. (After a cup of coffee first, of course.) I always create ridiculous wish lists every year that cover the gamut of geekdom from Star Wars Lego Death Star sets to Captain America hand warmers. Sometimes my wife goes with things on my list, other times she goes "off menu" and just nails it. That's exactly what she did this time. As a ...

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Swings Onto Blu-ray & DVD March 19

There have been loads of Spider-Man variations over the years. Not just different artists or costume changes, but different characters. Spider-Man 2099. Ultimate Spider-Man. Spider-Gwen. Spider-Ham. Ben Reilly. (Sorry, I had to go there.) With the recent release of Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, mainstream America finally got to see them all too! If you missed it, no worries. The award-winning animated film hits digital download on February 26 and Blu-ray/DVD on March 19. I for one, cannot wait to see it again. As a comic fan, I loved just about everything in this film. The animation is slick and so incredibly unique, I can't even describe it. The story is rich ...
