We’ve had our puppy Ace for exactly three months now. This little guy somehow gets cuter by the day and more and more lovable. At 5 months old, he’s already a big part of the family.
When it comes to feeding Ace, the little guy is a wonder. Yes, he’s picky with his dog food like most dogs probably are, but we’ve discovered he loves a lot of people food too.
Bananas? You bet!
Apples? Definitely a fan.
Pizza crust? Um, yeah, that’s actually one of his favorites.
Not to mention cream cheese and cottage cheese, which send him into a complete Snoopy Happy Dance mode.
My wife and I love that he eats more natural people food, and we’re always on the lookout for healthy dog food too.
That’s why I was really excited to give JustFoodForDogs a try.
Healthy Dog Food
What exactly is JustFoodForDogs? Well, as the name says, it’s food for your dog. But in this case, they are the #1 vet recommended fresh dog food. That actually means a lot.
With a staff composed of expert nutritionists and vets, you know these regular meals for your dog or puppy are literally what the doctor ordered. Made with fresh, human-edible ingredients and no preservatives, JustFoodForDogs’ meals can change your dog’s life forever.
Feeding your dog fresh, healthy food can not only improve your pet’s immune system but give them more energy. (While Ace already has loads of energy as a puppy, I certainly wouldn’t want to see him slowing down as he gets older!)
6 Unique Recipes
JustFoodForDogs currently offers 6 different recipes for your pooch. These healthy dog food meals use only fresh whole-food ingredients, restaurant-quality meats and even locally sourced produce.
- Chicken & White Rice
- Beef & Russet Potato
- Turkey & Whole Wheat Macaroni
- Fish & Sweet Potato
- Venison & Squash
- Lamb & Brown Rice
All of these meals are made fresh by hand in kitchens that are actually open to the public. I love how transparent this company is. It can be really shocking (and a bit disturbing) to find out what’s really in that off-the-shelf pet food you’ve been buying at the supermarket.
JustFoodForDogs freezes its healthy dog food and ships directly to your home in temperature-appropriate packaging. Transfer right to your freezer and then simply take out and thaw when you’re ready to feed your four-legged friend.
The Taste Test
I was sent the Turkey & Whole Wheat Macaroni to try out for Ace. I thawed it out and opened the package.
The absolute very first thing I noticed was… the smell. Normally, dog food has a pretty nasty odor to it. Canned food especially! But JustFoodForDogs had next to no smell at all. If anything, it looked and smelled pretty good.
Yeah, the look. Don’t you just want to gag when you dump out the mushy contents of a can of dog food? Not with JustFoodForDogs. I actually was really tempted to try the Turkey & Whole Wheat Macaroni myself.
But I didn’t. This was Ace’s time to shine after all.
So I put a portion in his bowl for lunch and stepped back.
Normally, Ace takes a while to saunter over to his bowl. He must like his privacy or something because I need to step away and he’ll slowly make it over and nibble at his food.
It’s not uncommon for him to only eat about half his food. We usually mix a freeze dried patty with some kibble, and he’ll eat the patty and barely touch the kibble.
Well, apparently, Ace is a big fan of healthy dog food. I barely was able to put his bowl down when he was at my side ready to dive in.
And boy did he chow down! Honestly, I’ve never seen Ace eat so much so quickly.
He didn’t stop. Didn’t step away and come back.
And he didn’t leave a spot of food either. Yes, he truly licked the bowl clean!
I’d say JustFoodForDogs nailed it when it comes to the taste test for canines.
Transitioning to Healthy Dog Food
If you are going to switch your meals with your dog, JustFoodForDogs even has a full transition plan. It takes about 11 days to slowly integrate fresh food into your pet’s meals, and then your little guy’s all set to continually eat fresh, whole foods at all his meals.
The results should be pretty amazing too. By changing your dog’s diet, you can expect some really positive results:
- Abundant energy
- Brightness in the eyes
- Little to no doggie odor
- Well-formed stool
Merely based on Ace’s reaction and all the nutritional advantages, I most definitely am hooked. And I’m pretty sure Ace is too.
Doesn’t your pooch deserve food that isn’t just healthy for him but tastes great too? Trust me, your furbaby will thank you for a happier and healthier life. And that’s some serious food for thought!

Thanks sharing for informative article. This article exposition really well….
My dog loves it. She can’t eat only dry foods anymore.( we are still mixing them with previous dry foods.
Do dogs need carbohydrates?
While dogs get a significant amount of energy from dietary protein and fats, carbohydrates are still important components of dog nutrition. They are broken down by the digestive system and converted to glucose, an alternate source of energy. For this reason, carbohydrates can be an important caloric source in some dog foods.
Whole grain carbohydrates can furnish iron, minerals and fiber as well as other beneficial nutrients. They can be found in vegetables and fruit, which also supply minerals, fiber, antioxidants, phytochemicals and some protein.
Although it is fine for dog food to contain carbohydrates, we don’t recommend any dog nutrition source that uses carbohydrates as its main protein-based ingredients. Instead, we prefer higher protein and fat content to carbohydrates, especially in adult and senior dog food.
Hi Admin,
Thank you for your post. Check the Ingredients is the most important.
Hi Andrew,
Great article – I love to see other folks bringing up natural food for dogs in their articles and not focusing solely on dry/industrial food types. I started my dogs on a natural diet a few years back and it was the best decision ever.
PS: Ace is absolutely adorable 🙂
Thanks for your review! I also love the photos of your dog!
I am sure my dog is gonna love this. I normally get my dog’s food from Petcarerx or Chewys. I could not find ir on wither, so I guess I will order directly from their website. Thanks!
Our dogs would love this!! As they get older, I really look into what types of foods and treats I am giving them on the regular. Thank you for sharing!
