Game: Super Mario Maker
Reviewer: Jason, Age 12
Have you ever wanted to create your own Mario courses? Well now you can with Super Mario Maker.
Super Mario Maker is a very easy to use Mario level creator with almost infinite possibilities for levels. There are 60 different objects you can use, with many of them changing into a different object when you shake them. You can also add 26 different sound effects plus a sub-world.
The interface is very simple and easy to use. All you have to do is drag and drop objects to the course using the Wii U Gamepad.
You can share you creations online but at first you can only share 10 levels but as your levels get stars you can share more. In the 10 Mario Challenge, you play through 8 different pre-made courses with only 10 lives. In the 100 Mario Challenge, you play through 8 or 16 custom levels with 100 lives.
You can use 4 different game themes (Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U), and 6 different level themes: Ground, Underground, Underwater, Ghost House, Airship and Castle. That makes 24 different themes! The level creation process is really fun.
When you start the game you only have 12 items, but every day you unlock more. After 9 days, you unlock everything. If you don’t want to wait you can just change the date on your Wii U. There are 99 different amiibo costumes which you can unlock using amiibos or by beating the 100 Mario Challenge which you can only use in the Super Mario Bros. Theme.
Sadly, you can only share your levels via a long level code and you can’t share with your friends but that may be fixed in an update.
If you use the 30th Anniversary Mario amiibo, you can put a Big Mushroom into your game which when collected allows Mario to become huge, the screen looks like a CRT television, many enemies look like Mario or Luigi and Mario can now break blocks!
Super Mario Maker is one of the best Wii U titles out there.

This is so cool. Not sure if I am advanced enough to do it. It looks awesome
I adore Mario games but he causes alot of drama and competition between my boys
I WOULD LOVE THIS . I PLAYED ALL OF THE FIRST MARIO BROS AND THEY WERE GREAT. TO MAKE MY OWN WOULD BE A DREAM. TECHNOLOGY GETS MORE AMAZING EVERYDAY.
I was wondering about this game. It’s on my daughter’s Christmas list.
And by “daughter,” you real mean “Tiffany’s list” right? 😉
Very neat! My nephew loves The Super Mario Bros and would really enjoy this.
This looks like so much fun! Mario was my favorite video game as a kid. I’ll have to look at getting this.
This looks fun! I think Mario is my age lol maybe he’s a few years younger than me. Who doesn’t love Mario? 🙂
Omgosh This Looks and Sounds amazing =) I will be definitely looking into for myself and children =) PS: Love his shirt =)
Thanks, Stacy. I love his Pac-Man shirt too!
Very cool! My nephew would love this! He loves gaming.
Sounds very cool! I’m sure my grandkids would love it (the older ones)
That is so cool. I would’ve loved that growing up.
I saw a commercial for this and it’s a really neat idea for a Mario game. I’ve been playing Mario since the first Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo and still play Mario games.
See, this is the sole reason I would buy a Wii U. I can’t get into the Minecraft or Octodad games on PS4 that my son loves but if you give me Mario, the competition for the remote becomes heated.
Thanks for the review.
