After a press trip there is one question that always comes up: “Were you star struck?” This time my answer is a resounding YES…but the star I fell in love with may surprise you.
It was a gorgeous day at the Disney Studios, snacking on muffins and coffee as we waited. Little did I know that I would fall head over heels for one of Disney’s newest stars.
It wasn’t hard to notice when he entered – the collective sighs and ‘awwwwww’ were a dead giveaway. I’ve never seen so many bloggers crowd a platform so quickly. Can you blame them when this cutie is center stage?
Would they notice if I just tucked him in my camera bag and took him home?
Cooper is one of the stars of Disney’s newest Buddies movie Super Buddies. He was quite the social butterfly, enjoying continuous pats and ear scratches. His training was obvious as he sat happily on his stage with tons of noise and movement around him.
Cooper is one of several animal actors used in the movie with each character played by 4 to 6 different puppies. These little actors begin their training at 8 weeks old and go through a two-week “Buddies Bootcamp” to prepare for their roles.
Each puppy films for approximately 14 weeks before they ‘retire’ due to an increase in their size; then the next set of younger puppies takes over. One Buddies movie can require 2 – 3 litters (20 – 30 puppies). That’s a lot of licks, scratches and tail wagging! Afterwards some puppies may go on to work in additional films, but most are adopted into permanent loving homes.
If you think this guy is adorable overload, just wait until you see Super Buddies. These five bundles of cuteness will knock your socks off (and likely have your kids begging for their own puppy…sorry about that).
About The Movie:
An ordinary day at Fernfield Farms turns extraordinary when Budderball, Mudbud, B-Dawg, Buddha and Rosebud discover mysterious rings that grant them each a unique super power. Before you can say, “Buddies, assemble,” the pups unleash their amazing abilities and race to the rescue when a shape-shifting bully from outer space threatens the planet. But can they succeed in kicking major tail without revealing their new secret identities?
My (almost) four year old and I curled up on the couch for our Super Buddies preview like we do with most family movies. Except, where he’d typically get up to play half way through, this time he stayed put until the very end. That’s a big A+ on the review scorecard for me! Between talking puppies, out of this world aliens and colorful human characters too – there wasn’t a moment where his attention dropped. It also helped that one of the puppies shares my son’s nickname: Buddha. He thought that was the coolest thing ever.
While all of the laughs and adventure are awesome, there’s also a great lesson to be learned about how we all have our own strengths and that you don’t need super powers to be a super hero. I don’t want to give away too much, but at one point my son turned to me, eyes wide, and said, “Momma! Look! They’re working TOGETHER!” Mission accomplished, Disney. Job well done.
‘SUPER BUDDIES’ stars John Ratzenberger (“Brave,” “Cars,” TV’s “Cheers”), Michael Teigen (TV’s “Supernatural,” “TRON: Legacy”), Jason Earles (TV’s “Kickin’ It,” TV’s “Hannah Montana”) and more.
Super Buddies is available on DVD and 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack starting August 27th.

That is so cute! I’ve had a total of 16 dogs (not all at once!!!!), and really wish I could get one now. Dogs really ARE your best friend. No dog ever said, “Sandy, you’re fat, ugly, and stupid!”.
What an adorable picture!! The puppy looks so soft! How neat that you got to meet the star of the movie!
Oh my gosh! They are so cute. Look at those eyes. We love Super Buddies!
How cute, who doesn’t love watching dogs in a movie. My daughter does and she’s a teenager.
