Many thanks to Pringles® for sponsoring this post, so I can share my musical thoughts with you and talk about having a rockin’ summer!
Air guitar is pretty cool. Having a great singing voice is killer. But drums? Yeah, nothing beats ’em. (Sorry, pun actually not intended!)
The coolest thing about drums? Easily the drumsticks. Specifically twirling them. Back in high school, I remember wasting hours and hours of class time just trying to twirl a pencil in my hand, trying to do my best Tommy Lee impression. No, I still can’t do it.
Even though I never took drum lessons, music has always been important to me and my family. I played saxophone from 4th Grade through my junior year of high school. I even got to rock out at football games as part of the marching band.
Then I took piano lessons because I always wanted to learn how to play. And a few years later, I taught myself guitar while in college.
As for listening to music, I’m still living in the ’80s, where I love rocking out to Twisted Sister, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Ratt, etc. Sure, I never had the hair for head banging, but that didn’t stop me!
My kids both play strings and love listening to the latest pop tunes. We even had a kid drum set for them when they were younger. It had two volumes: loud and ludicrously loud.
I hope my kids keep up with their musical passion, because I really think music is important for everyone. It’s a way to get out aggression. To express your emotions. To simply get across a feeling without uttering a single word.
When my boys were toddlers, they spent a lot of time on the kitchen floor banging away on pots and pans with wooden spoons. See, the coolest thing about music is that you can make it anywhere. Out of anything. Like say… an empty Pringles® can!
First, you need to empty the can! That I can do!
Then you need a set of drumsticks. Thankfully the rockin’ folks at Pringles® provided me with a set
Finally, you just need to let loose and hammer away at your makeshift drums. If you’re a real professional, however, you’ll collect a few dozen empty Pringles® cans and create one of the coolest, sickest sounds around. Seriously, watch this video of the Percussion Prodigies and see how incredibly fast these guys are!
Thanks to Pringles®, you and a friend can get the chance to win a VIP experience to a Live Nation concert in the United States. It’s pretty simple to enter too. Just grab a specially marked can of Pringles® (might I recommend the nummilicious Food Truck flavor Kickin Chicken Taco!), and enter your code online.
Great snacks and great tunes. Sounds like it’s gonna be one rockin’ summer after all!
How important is music to your family?
