Thanksgiving’s just around the corner and I most definitely have a lot to be thankful for. There’s my incredible wife. Awesome kids. Great job. Good health. And the fact that as a blogger, I get all kinds of crazy cool opportunities, like catching Disney’s latest film Moana in a Dolby Cinema at AMC theater this weekend!
Earlier this year I had the distinct pleasure of catching Disney’s Zootopia in a Dolby Cinema at AMC over at the AMC Garden State 16 theater in Paramus, NJ. This theater is so amazingly cool it’s more of an experience than just a venue. Remember the first time you saw an HDTV and thought, “How can I ever go back to normal TV?” Well, yeah, after catching a flick in a Dolby Cinema at AMC theater, I’m a little too spoiled.
If you haven’t heard of Moana yet, get your head out from under that Rock. (Yes, pun intended!). See, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson voices the hilarious demigod Maui. He joins up with Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho), who leaves her safe and secure island to embark on a dangerous journey to save her people. You better believe the pair face ginormous monsters and adventure as they voyage across the open ocean.
Made by the same team that brought you Zootopia and Frozen (you’ve heard of that little film, haven’t you?), Moana looks to be an absolute sure-fire hit. I’m a big fan of animation and with Zootopia, I was mesmerized by the attention to detail on every animal. I just love how animators can make “cartoon fur” look so incredibly lifelike.
I expect nothing less with Moana. From the early images and trailers, I noticed how unique this one was. I can’t really describe it, except to say just look at how lifelike the water is and look at every single curl in Maui and Moana’s hair! Even without an amazing story and unbelievable songs (which I’m sure it will have), Moana looks so breathtakingly gorgeous, I’d watch two hours of test footage just seeing the characters walk around.
All that imagery and sound gets cranked up a few more notches, though, thanks to the super futuristic Dolby Cinema at AMC theater! Not only do you have super comfy (reclining!) seats, but you get a magnificently gorgeous picture quality. Yeah, these guys make HD look like an old VHS tape!
And then there’s the sound. With a surround-sound type of audio, you feel like you are 100% smack dab in the middle of the action. There are noises coming at you from every possible angle.
If you’ve never seen a movie at a Dolby Cinema at AMC, you owe it to yourself and your family. Just think of the children! You wouldn’t want them to be neglected for not experiencing a movie in the ultimate setting, would you?
Well, now’s your chance! Moana will be playing at select times in Dolby Cinema at AMC theaters across the country when it opens this weekend on November 23.

So this weekend while the rest of the country braves the insane crowds trying to take advantage of holiday shopping sales, I’ll be chilling in style at a Dolby Cinema at AMC watching Moana and Maui getting a nice tan as they brave the endless oceans. Sounds like something to be truly thankful after all.

We’re looking forward to seeing this. I’m going to look for a Dolby cinema!
This looks like it will be a good movie, just not to sure about all the singing though!
We were out shopping and JC Penney’s had a bunch of merchandise for Moana available.
This looks like a great movie to see. I am really looking forward to it.
Ahhh no Dolby in Iowa. We are rather behind the times, or perhaps we think we are lucky to see ‘moving pictures’ at all 🙂 Thus looks good. I have seen interviews with both the stars and they sound excited to have done it. The graphics look great too!
Have a fantastic time!
