Hop Over to a Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime and Devour Disney’s Zootopia Today

Things got pretty wild yesterday at the AMC Garden State 16 theater in Paramus, NJ. The place was packed paw to paw with moviegoers eager to see Disney’s latest film Zootopia.

And if all those little squeals and shrieks of joy were any indication, the House of Mouse has another mega hit on its hands. (And for the record, I wasn’t the only one squealing and shrieking…)

I took Allie and the boys with me and, thanks to Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime, I was able to give away 8 tickets to my readers! (Congrats again, Gigi and Mark!) I’d never been to a Dolby Cinema, so I couldn’t wait to see, hear and feel the amazement.

In case you’ve been hibernating in a cave, Zootopia’s the latest animated masterpiece from the creators of Disney’s Frozen and Big Hero 6. It features the amazing talent of Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White on “Once Upon a Time”) as fluffy bunny Officer Hopps and Jason Bateman as the sly scam artist fox Nick Wilde.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery.

With our Zootopia ears in place, we settled in for a great show!

I have to say right out of the gate, if you want to watch a movie in style, then get yourself over to a Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime. Seriously, I could watch the most boring painful movie in this theater and still have a great time. (Or even a great nap!)

Let’s just start with the seats, shall we? Not only do you get super comfy cushy seats that are the equivalent of a Lazy Boy Recliner, but they come with electronic controls right on your arm rest! Adjust your head or your feet (or both!) to settle in for a relaxing time.

Oh, and even with your legs fully extended there’s still plenty of room for other people to walk past you without you having to move an inch! No more being annoyed by that guy who gets up 46 times to go to the bathroom during the film!

We got comfy, had our popcorn and sat through some seriously entertaining previews! Finding Dory and the live-action The Jungle Book are now tops on our list for must-see movies!

The other cool part about the Dolby Cinema is the gorgeous picture quality and the crazy cool surround-sound type of audio. I felt like I was at a rock concert at times with the music making up a huge part of the experience. The sound actually traveled around the room, and I even felt my chair shake a bit at one point. It’s an incredible experience you definitely should take advantage of at least once in your life! (Of course, I think I’m spoiled now for all other movie theaters in my future.)

The only thing I was worried about going into the movie was that all those adorable bunny and fox ears would get in the way! All the kids (and okay, lots of adults too!) were wearing them, so I thought my view would be totally obstructed. But again, the spacious seating and perfect elevation of each row helped me see the entire movie screen no problem.

So the Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime was a big hit. But what about Zootopia itself? Is the movie any good?

Honestly, I liked it better than Big Hero 6 (which I loved) and just as much as I enjoyed Frozen. Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll just say the characters are fabulous, the mystery is a really great story and the animation is as gorgeous as ever.

Animal fur looks soooo real on the screen. There were plenty of times I wanted to reach out and scratch Officer Hopps behind her ears.

Oh, and it’s funny too. Really, really funny!

Besides all that great stuff going for it, it’s the little things that make a really good Disney movie a really great Disney movie. And Zootopia does not disappoint. Just seeing the people-like animals showing up for work in Zootopia is adorable. The little Rodent Town is a riot. The different knock-off videos being sold on the street corner is both hilarious and dead-on accurate if you’ve ever walked the streets of Manhattan.

I can’t wait to see Zootopia again so I can really pay attention to all those little details in the background. And like most Disney movies, there’s also some really strong morals behind the storyline. It’s nothing heavy handed, but it should hit every adult pretty hard and make us all think a bit differently about our lives and how we can make this world a much better place for everyone.

I can very easily see Disney putting out a sequel (or, ahem, animated series!) in the future and frankly, I’m going to go downright savage if they don’t! So grab your whole pack and race to your nearest theater today to catch Zootopia! If you really want the full-on wild experience, check out a Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime theater and strap in for one crazy wild ride!

  1. You all are so lucky to have that theater nearby, I bet it is a whole different experience! The movie looks great. I am amazed how much ‘animation’ has moved forward. It is seamless,, the characters are so thought ou, and the storylines are long enough to be movies.

Disney, as far as I know, never disappoints and this movie is no exception. Thank you for such a wonderful review. I will be anxious to get the DVD when it comes out.

  11. Your trip to the movies was way more fun than mine. I got harassed by a homeless woman in McDonald’s. I bought her breakfast for dinner and she proceeded to teach my children racial slurs and expletives. Good times. The movie itself was awesome!
