Spread the Love (and Class) this Valentine’s Day, Plus Win a $275 Waterford Crystal Rose Bowl (ends 2/17)

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, the biggest thing on everyone’s minds has to be flowers. Men start thinking about buying them and women start thinking bout getting ’em. Of course, there are a few other romantic permutations to toss in there.

I generally don’t buy flowers for my wife. It’s not that I’m cheap (no, really!) or unloving or anything. I just have pretty bad allergies, so every time I buy Allie flowers, she loves them for a day or two. And then my allergies kick in and my snoring hits 30 decibels and she suddenly regrets the beautiful bouquet.

I even bought her a dozen long-stemmed roses for her once back in her teaching days, and had them delivered to her at school. There’s just something extra magical about that super long box of roses, right?

Anyways, the one thing most people don’t think about when it comes to giving flowers is the vase. Sure, lots of companies offer free vases with most orders, but they’re generally pretty simple glass vases. Simple and, well, pretty shoddy. I can’t tell you the number of super thin vases I’ve broken over the years. And not from dropping them, but just from trying to wash them or knocking into them with something.

That’s where floral-minded folks over at Waterford come in. they don’t just make beautiful vases, they make true works of art. In fact, they even have an entire collection devoted to mixing crystal and floral artistry called Fleurology.

Waterford Fleurology

Fleurology is the union of fine crystal and floral artistry as it relates to individual style, creative expression, and gracious living. The collection includes clear and colored crystal vases and cachepots with exquisite patterns and shapes and beautiful crystal flowers to pair with any crystal vase.

Yeah, yeah, I hear ya. A vase is a vase, right? Well no, not really. Just like I wrote about Waterford’s breathtaking Mixology collection (that still makes me want to build a bar in my house just so I’d have an excuse to buy everything in that line), this Fleurology collection is museum worthy. Any of these pieces would also make for a wonderful Valentine’s Day present too.

The Fleurology Collection includes elegant and colorful vases and bowls, as well as some truly unique crystal flowers. Prices range from a low of $60 all the way up to $1,400 so take a look to see what fits in your Valentine’s Day budget.

Crystal Flowers

Check out these crystal flowers which would make great companion pieces to any vase, or simply a great gift on their own.

Crystal Vases

I love the various sizes and shapes of the vases available in this collection, but the colorful ones are especially pretty amazing.

And then there are these bowls. I don’t think you’d be eating cereal out of any of these unless your uncle’s last name was McDuck. But they flow beautifully with the rest of the collection and would certainly last way longer than any ol’ bunch of flowers.

  1. My first boyfriend got me a ring and matching set of earrings. It was the first jewelry I had ever got from a boy so it was pretty cool.

  2. My husband and I were broke so he told me we were dining out and had the best seats in the place. I got all dressed up and found that when we stopped the car we were at the beach, he had made a picnic basket and some cheap wine under the full moon. Best gift ever!

  3. I’ve never really received anything amazing, due to our anniversary being right before valentines. Its an agreement between us. But I did give an amazing gift this year, 4 tickets to a monster truck show (boys will be boys!)

  4. My husband bought me a dishwasher. Under normal circumstances it might be a no-no, but I had been washing the dishes by hand for 6 months, so it was a welcome (and thoughtful) gift.

  5. An miraculous, sudden reunion with my long lost (after high school) childhood sweetheart 20 years later. Once again it was like love at first sight. Three months later, we were engaged. Four months after that – we were married. That was 22 years ago!

  6. The most special Valentine’s gift I ever received was from a past boyfriend – a dozen yellow roses. I remember vaguely telling him that yellow was my favorite color and that roses were my favorite flower – he just happened to put it all together. Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. I know this is going to sound crazy, but a Dishwasher is the most special Valentine’s Day gift I received from my late husband. It was during a time when I had to wash dishes for 6! (our 4 young children, my husband, and I)

  15. Valentine’s Day is my birthday and I will be 55 years young tomorrow, but my poor husband has always had to think, think, think about a Birthday gift/Valentine’s Day gift combo and he never shortchanges me! The BEST gift by far was 2/14/2005, when my GrandDaughter, Libby, was 7 months old, her first Valentine’s Day. He gave me a Gold Charm bracelet with a single charm, a little girl silhouette, with LIBBY engraved on one side and July 16, 2004, on the other side, her birthday! Great One, Johnny! I NEVER take it off! <3

  20. My Hubby once gave me a computer mouse that not only was a gorgeous shade of iridescent red, but the red led lights pulsed whenever you touched it (kinda like a heartbeat). It may not sound romantic, but I’m a geek girl and I’m at my computer 8-10 hours a day. I was so sad when it finally died years later.

I felt like a princess!!!

A few years ago I was really ill over Valentine’s Day and Gareth cleaned the entire house, did the laundry, and then when I woke up, there was a tray on my bed with my favorite Chinese Take out egg drop soup, a vase of hydrangeas (I know I know, but I don’t like roses), and some Jello tea which was icing on the cake.

  41. Well, believe it or not, the most special Valentine gift I’ve received came from my nephew. He was five at the time, used money he saved and drove his mom crazy while he chose his gift for me. It was a small teddy bear and he spent time choosing the right expression and a pink silk rose to go with it. It was truly given with all his heart! What can be more special than that?

  47. My best Valentines was actually not a gift for me. The First Valentine’s day my (now) husband and I had together I put together a gift basket for him and surprised him with it after dinner. Nothing ‘scandalous’ but champagne and flutes (the same we used at our wedding), chocolates, cheeses and crackers, appetizer plates with hearts, that type of thing. The best part of the evening was watching him open everything and keeping in the spirit of giving to the one you love.

  63. We don’t do V-Day, and the only time I’ve been in a relationship on V-Day before I met my partner, that guy totally blew it! He gave me a kind of candy I’d been begging for all week, nothing else, and then picked a huge fight with me.* I cried so hard that I threw up (I guess I was sick, because I’ve never had that issue before or since). When I did, carefully aimed into a trash can, instead of patting my back or anything, he put his body between me and his favorite (cheap) camera to protect it, instead. It was, well, far enough away that he could get between me and it, so it was in no danger.

That experience may be partially responsible for my family’s decision to just avoid V-Day in general (and we’re not big into commercialism anyway), but mostly it’s because my birthday is the week before.

*About how I was a jerk for making him celebrate V-Day right after my birthday….he didn’t do anything for birthday, either.
